Actors, learn your craft
From craft comes mastery which leads to freedom.
At Threshold Acting Studio you will hone your craft while learning specific techniques, tools and skills taken from the art of acting.
Tools & Techniques
Practical methods for deepening your craft, expanding your range, and staying grounded in the work.
-
The text must come to life. You’ll learn that it is the actor’s responsibility to respect the script with a willingness to read it deeply with a fertile imagination and how to understand where the playwright is leading the character, the character’s environment, objectives, intentions, and obstacles.
-
Energy flows where attention goes. You will learn how to focus on something outside of yourself and how to commit fully to your objective.
-
All good acting stems from an actor's instincts and impulses not from intellect. You will learn to act from your gut, not your head.
-
Acting is doing, not feeling; feeling comes out of doing. You will learn how acting depends on committing strongly to unique choices by way of doable actions.
-
You will learn how to be an active listener and observer and give yourself permission to be affected by your acting partners and the imaginary circumstances of the scene.
-
You will learn how to courageously and freely express emotion, allowing your feelings to come out in truthful behavior.
-
Knowledge is power and self-knowledge is essential for the actor. You must know how you feel about things, people, and the world around you as well as a keen interest in deep self analysis.
-
Imagination is the most powerful source for artists to draw on. You will learn how to create a character and bring it to life as a living experience, using the imagination in all its infinite power.
Led by Christian Martin
Christian spent his formative years in France and England, where he developed a deep appreciation for performance and storytelling. After graduating from the Chrysalis Acting School in London, he began working professionally in theater, television, and film. Over the past 20 years, he has continued to refine his craft, training with some of the industry’s most respected teachers and directors, including Larry Moss, Mark Rylance, Gore Verbinski, and Gavin Hood. Christian has taught acting workshops internationally, including in France, where he introduced students to the power of scene study and improvisation in unlocking creative freedom. His teaching blends classical training with a deep respect for the actor’s individuality.
In addition to classical technique, Christian brings a distinctive approach to his teaching, incorporating the Four Elements as a framework for creative truth:
FIRE (Will & Intention): the spark and drive behind instinct, the force that propels action.
WATER (Emotion & Meaning): the deep currents of feeling and vulnerability that make performance human.
AIR (Intellect & Imagination): the clarity of thought and analysis, and the creative imagination that shapes character and choice.
EARTH (Body & Presence) the grounded physicality and voice that roots the actor in the moment.
By working with these elements, actors discover how to channel raw elemental power and transform it into living tools for their performances.
